La Catedral de Burgos está dedicada a Santa María la Mayor, es el primer templo de la diócesis. Comenzada su construcción en 1221, es Patrimonio Mundial de la Humanidad desde 1984. Siéntase protagonista de este lugar, que es obra de los hombres y fue hecho para gloria de Dios, como pensaron los artistas que en él trabajaron durante tantos siglos. Antes de que mire hacia arriba y contemple la maravilla gótica de la luz queremos informarle de la historia pasada de este lugar, que generación tras generación ha ido plasmando en la construcción lo que Burgos necesitaba. Este templo, que ahora le acoge, no es la primera catedral que se levantó en este lugar. Anteriormente hubo aquí una catedral románica, edificada entre 1080 y 1095, en el espacio que ocupó el palacio de los Reyes de Castilla, donado por el Rey Alfonso VI al obispo, D. Jimeno.
